Makeup Tips for Women Over 50

There is no age limit on playing with makeup! The fun doesn’t have to stop, it is more about embracing and celebrating beauty at any age. There will always be a way to spin new trends to fit your age, lifestyle, and needs.

That’s the beauty of makeup, it’s like art, you can adjust according to your personality! As skin matures there are noticeable changes happening, from the development of lines, wrinkles, increased pore size, and dark spots. Many women turn to makeup to try and cover these natural aging processes, but we are here to help you get back to the basics and look and feel your best!

Great makeup up starts with a great skincare routine. Your skincare routine at a minimum should consist of cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing. You can always add in active serums and masks as you feel the need.

Makeup Tips for Women Over 50

Create a Base

Hydration is key when it comes to creating a glowing base for your makeup. Opt for a lightweight moisturizer and let that sink in before applying a primer. Using a smoothing gel texture primer will help to plump up any wrinkles and will allow your foundation to sit right on top of the skin.

We recommend the Lift Intelligent Energy Moisturizer, and the Elate Cosmetics Primer.

Picking Foundation and Concealer

When it comes to choosing a foundation, look for a sheer hydrating formula. A full coverage foundation will settle into lines and make you look cake-y. Use a fluffy foundation brush to help the product blend easily and taper off towards the neck to create a barely there look.

We recommend the Oat Milk Foundation, and Perfecting Buffer Brush.

Use a lightweight and creamy concealer that blends easily into the skin with a focus on the inner corner of the eyes and dark under eye circles.

We recommend the Arnica Concealer.

When choosing a foundation and concealer shade, go for a shade or two darker than your exact match. Why? A matchy-matchy shade will actually age you and make you look washed out. We can help color match you on Paris Laundry, use our live chat feature.

Adding Color to Your Cheeks

Bronzer is a great way to bring a natural warmth and glow to your face. Apply under the cheekbones, down the sides of the nose, across the hairline, and right under the jawline for a more sculpted look.

We recommend the Rice Powder Bronzer in Roma.

When it comes to blush, you can’t go wrong with a muted rosy shade. A cream formula is always nice as well, but the texture comes down to more of a personal preference.

We recommend the Pressed Cheek Color in Brave, or the Hydratint Blush Serum.

Mascara

For the eyes you want to be sure to use an eye lash curler, be gentle not to tug at the lashes. You just want to give them a little lift. Mascara can be trial and error, but you want to look for a formula that is not heavy and thick as the lashes become thinner and more brittle as we age. You just want to do a light layer and give your lashes a natural definition.

We recommend the Avocado Waterproof Mascara.

Eyeliner

Eyeliner is totally up to you, but if you are going for it, stick with black! Brown shades tend to make you look tired and actually give the appearance of dragging down the eye.

We recommend the Lily Lolo Black Eyeliner Pencil.

Eyeshadow

As for shadow, color is all up to you! It is more about the application than it is the shade that you choose. Start from the outer corner of the eyes and work your way inward. You want the color to gradually get lighter, so the eye area looks nice and awake.

We recommend an eyeshadow palette for more color options.

Don't Forget Brows

No need to go too heavy on the brows, again, too much product will have the adverse effect and make you look older. Go for your natural shape, just fill in the arches with a light featherlike stroke to make them full but not too bold.

We recommend the Lily Lolo Brow Duo Powder, or the Elate Brow Balm.

Finish with Lips

Finish off with lips! As you get older your lips can become asymmetrical. Use a lip liner in a shade that matches your natural lip color in order to create more symmetry. Fill in your lips with the liner before applying your lip product. Whether you like a matte lipstick or a hydrating gloss, the choice is yours.
