WHY NATURAL TOOTHPASTE IS BETTER FOR YOU THAN REGULAR TOOTHPASTE
We hear a lot about healthy eating, organic foods, chemicals, and trying to eliminate them. I mean, clearly here at Paris Laundry we are all about the ridding of harmful chemicals, but have you ever stopped to assess your oral health routine? Sometimes not the first thing that comes to mind when switching to more natural products, but it is a really easy one and it is beneficial for your health!
What is the difference between regular toothpaste and natural toothpaste? Regular toothpastes are full of ingredients that can actually be quite harmful to your health, especially if continually consumed. These ingredients include:
- Fluoride- which fights cavities but in large doses is actually toxic. There is enough fluoride added to your local water supply that you do not have a need for it in your toothpaste.
- SLS- Sodium Laurel Sulfate which is used to make your toothpaste foam, but it is actually an ingredient found in most detergents and shampoos! Your toothpastes does not need to foam in order to clean!
- Saccharin- an artificial sweetener added to toothpaste and mouthwash, which has been linked to bladder cancer, brain tumors and lymphoma in rodents.
- Triclosan- is added to personal care products to reduce bacterial contamination, but it has been linked to hormone disruption. The FDA banned it in body wash and soaps, but it can still be found in some lines of regular toothpaste.
Look for a toothpaste that is made with all natural ingredients such as mint and other herbs known to freshen breath. We love the Dr. Brite line of oral care products! They contain all the needed ingredients to help eliminate bacteria, without all the potentially harmful chemicals.
The physical act of brushing your teeth provides more cleaning, than what we usually associate cleaning with....foaming! An all natural toothpaste will not foam which might take some time to get used to in the beginning, but your mouth will still feel clean.
We also love that Dr. Brite has kids products too because we all know how much they are swallowing while brushing, so there is no need to worry about them ingesting chemicals!
